Nearly $9,000 was donated to the Margaretville Health Foundation last Saturday at a Celebrity Waiters Luncheon event at the Peekamoose Restaurant and Tap Room in Oliverea. “Waiters” Peggy Bellar and Meade Camp, Elie Burkett, Gary Gailes and Rosina Montana, Donna Hollon and Mike Moriarity, Gerry Murphy, Todd Pascarella, and Eric Wedemeyer with Karen Munro competed to grab the most “tips” all of which were donated to the foundation.

The team of Eric Wedemeyer and Karen Munro took home first prize in the contest and were named Celebrity Waiter of the Year but were hotly contested by the second-place team of Gary Gailes and Rosina Montana. In addition to helping the Peekamoose team serve food and beverage, waiters had to perform various feats of fun to extract tips and in many cases, guests at the luncheon joined in to challenge the waiters or add their own performances.

Scholarship benefits Proceeds from the event will go to a new medical education scholarship and loan fund established by the Margaretville Health Foundation in memory of Larry Bauer. Bauer, a longtime area businessman who also taught at both Onteora and Margaretville schools before he died last year, was a passionate advocate of educational causes and beneficiary of high-quality health care services delivered by the hospital. The Margaretville Health Foundation works to support community health care initiatives that guarantee the highest quality health care possible for the Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center service area. The goal of the foundation is to ensure that contributions impact both facilities and create excellence in service delivered and increase awareness of the role the facilities play in the quality of life in the region.
